It is better to be loved for who you are than loved for who you are not.
That’s the only real courage. I mean, few of us go into burning buildings to save others. But watching a person face the worst with grace, uncomplainingly, grateful even for the love and help of others…That’s it, as far as I’m concerned.
It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else’s life with perfection.
Write hard and clear about what hurts.
You might say, “What a dreadful day,” without realizing that the cold, the wind, and the rain or whatever condition you react to are not dreadful. They are as they are. What is dreadful is your reaction, your inner resistance to it, and the emotion that is created by that resistance.
